What is the Liberty & Union Festival?

The Liberty & Union Festival is a free, family-friendly celebration of Taunton’s colonial history, featuring live reenactments, music, food, hands-on activities, museum tours, and more!

When and where does the festival take place?

The Liberty & Union Festival commemorates the historic events of October 21, 1774—when Taunton raised one of the first flags in the American colonies to defy British rule. Join us at the Old Colony History Museum, 66 Church Green, Taunton, MA 02780.

Is the event free?

Yes! All outdoor events and activities are free and open to the public. Some vendors may have items for sale.

Where should I park?

Free parking is available throughout Downtown Taunton at Galligan's Court (entrance on Weir Street), Trescott and Cedar Street Lot, and the Mill River Parking Lot (behind Taunton Police Station). Metered Spaces Downtown are free after 6pm daily and all days weekends and holidays.

What can I do at the festival?

​Enjoy colonial reenactors, craft demonstrations, food vendors, family-friendly activities, and guided tours of the Old Colony History Museum!

Are there activities for kids?

Yes! Don’t miss our kid-friendly scavenger hunt with prizes, hands-on crafts, and fun historical demonstrations.

Will there be food and drinks?

Yes—local food vendors will be on site with a variety of options for purchase. And Downtown Taunton has many great options for dining.

Are pets allowed?

Well-behaved, leashed pets are welcome outdoors, but please note that pets are not allowed inside the museum.

What happens if it rains?

The festival is rain or shine! Some activities may move indoors or be modified due to weather.
