Liberty and Union Flag Raising
11:30 am- 12:20 pm
The annual Flag Raising Ceremony begins at the Robert Treat Paine statue in front of Taunton City Hall with a wreath laying ceremony led by SAR. From there, a procession led by the William Diamond Junior Fife and Drum Corps takes the crowd to the flag pole in front of the Old Colony History Museum at 66 Church Green. A ceremony ensues honoring the Tauntonians who were the first in the colonies to raise a flag in opposition of British rule. Muskets are fired, trumpets blare, and the occasion is very festive.
Liberty and Union Festival
12:20 pm - 4:00 pm
Immediately following the ceremony enjoy the most Revolutionary Festival in these parts! Music, historic re-enactors, food, vendors, a beer tent, and free activities for the whole family make this an event not to miss. See the activities page for more details (Psst. There's a real, live Blacksmith!)
